Cobra Man (コブラ男, Kobura Otoko, 9) is a cobra monster of Shocker.

History[]

Cobra Man was tasked with stealing the gold from the Japan's Gold depository. While trying to steal the gold from the depository Cobra Man lost his fangs to a dog, while trying to get the fangs back he briefly captures Takeshi Hongo. After his escape the two battle and he is defeated by Kamen Rider 1's Rider Kick.[The Terrifying Cobra Man]

Repaired Cobra Man[]

He is later revived as Repaired Cobra Man (改造コブラ男, Kaizō Kobura Otoko, 10 & 13) with the added ability of breathing fire before being destroyed by Kamen Rider 1's Rider Gaeshi. [The Reborn Cobra Man]

He was later resurrected by Shocker as part of the Revived Monster Army before being destroyed by Tokageron's special bomb. [Tokageron and the Large Monster Army]

Kamen Rider Manga[]

In the original manga, Cobra Man was a man named Haruhiko (晴彦), who was inducted into Shocker alongside his girlfriend Miyoko (美代子), who became Snake Woman Medusa. The pair are initially assigned to assassinate protestors who oppose a factory run by Shocker; However, while chasing a young boy who witnessed his crimes, Cobra Man encounters Kamen Rider and becomes obsessed with defeating him. In battle, Cobra Man is gravely wounded by Kamen Rider's Rider Great Windmill.

The Great Leader orders the barely-alive Cobra Man's execution for disobeying orders, but Medusa convinces him to let her lover live. Cobra Man is reconstructed and the couple is given the mission to rob gold depositories to fund Shocker's activities. However, Cobra Man tips Hongo off to the scheme in order to have a rematch.

During the fight, Hongo tricks Medusa into firing her lasers into Cobra Man, killing him. In her sorrow, Medusa kills herself while cradling her lover's body.

The First[]

In the remake movie, Kamen Rider The First, Cobra Man is simply known as Cobra (コブラ, Kobura), the brainwashed state of Haruhiko Mitamura (三田村 晴彦, Mitamura Haruhiko), he is a special class soldier assigned to Bat's squadron, and later works independently alongside his romantic interest, Snake (formerly known as Miyoko Harada). He is mortally wounded by Kamen Rider 1's Rider Kick and dies while holding Snake's lifeless body in his arms.

Legacy[]

As Cobra Man is both the first monster to be revived after being destroyed and the first to be given an improved form. As a he is often referenced by monsters in later series alongside Man Spider and Bat Man, the first monsters in the Kamen Rider series. The spider, bat, and cobra form a trio of reoccurring monster motifs.
