True Gaia Memory

A Gaia Memory (ガイアメモリ, Gaia Memori) is a mysterious device resembling a USB flash drive that contains all of the Earth's knowledge of what it represents. This enables its user to become a Dopant, or in some special cases a Kamen Rider. Every Gaia Memory is adorned with the first letter of its name, stylized to reflect the powers it imbues on its user. For example, the Injury Memory (acquired by Shotaro and Philip before the series begins) resembles a broken bone in the shape of the letter I. In order to transform into a Dopant, the Gaia Memory is first inserted into a device called the L.C.O.G (Living Connector Setting Operation Gun), also called a Connect Shooter (コネクトシューター, Konekuto Shūtā), which then produces a USB port-like tattoo on the user's skin called a Living Connector (生体コネクタ, Seitai Konekuta). Whenever the Gaia Memory is pressed onto the Living Connector, it enters the user's body and transforms the user into a Dopant. It is possible to use a Gaia Memory without a Living Connector however a side effect is that the user would later suffer intense physical pain after several uses.

This direct insertion will eventually drive its user insane from its addictive influence, which is why special belts called Memory Drivers (メモリドライバー, Memori Doraibā) have been developed for use by high ranking members of the Museum to filter out these and other side effects. This weakens the Dopant visibly, as such high-ranking Museum members use some of the strongest Gaia Memories, identified by their golden colors, to more than compensate for this weakening. These Gaia Memories seem to be even more dangerous than regular Gaia Memories as hinted in the series. Despite the benefits, there are those who dislike the use of Drivers and would very much prefer the poisoning than being weakened, like Doctor Isaka. It also seems that when used excessively, the user will slightly gain the Gaia Memory`s powers as hinted when Ryubee who held the Terror Memory for at least ten years seemed to be able to intimidate others as well as flashed purple eyes when doing so.

Kamen Riders utilize Gaia Memories that have been refined such that they can only be used in specialized Memory Driver belts, and the Gaia Memories used do not enter the body and channels power through the Driver. These kinds of Gaia Memories were created by Shroud during her time as Fumine Sonozaki. This refinement makes them resemble USB drives, rather than the ribcage design on Dopant Gaia Memories, but further weakens the power of the Memories, only allowing access to the Memory's full power during a Maximum Drive.

To defeat a Dopant, a Kamen Rider has to use one of its Maximum Drive finishing attacks to eject and destroy the Gaia Memory, resulting in what is called a Memory Break (メモリブレイク, Memori Bureiku). Evolved Gaia Memories require a direct strike on its location within the Dopant's body to execute the Memory Break. If the Dopant does not have a Living Connector, a Memory Break will not occur, however the Gaia Memory will still be ejected from the user's body. Dopants who use Memory Drivers are not susceptible to Memory Breaks.

List of Gaia Memories

  • Shotaro Hidari (left half side)
    • Joker Memory (ジョーカーメモリ, Jōkā Memori): The Joker Memory, also known as the Ace Memory (切り札の記憶, Kirifuda no Kioku), allows the user to increase fighting potential and enhances the users reflexes significantly, becoming the Skill Warrior (技戦士, Waza Senshi). When used, half of Kamen Rider Double becomes the black Ace Left Half (切り札の左半身, Kirifuda no Hidari Hanshin). When the Joker Memory is placed in the Maximum Slot on the Double Driver, it allows Kamen Rider Double to split into two halves to deliver an elemental-powered Maximum Drive attack. The Joker Memory can also be used with the Lost Driver to allow Shotaro to individually transform into Kamen Rider Joker.
    • Metal Memory (メタルメモリ, Metaru Memori): The Metal Memory, also known as the Steel Memory (鋼鉄の記憶, Kōtetsu no Kioku) or the Fighter Memory (闘士の記憶, Tōshi no Kioku), empowers the user with great strength and magnified resistance to physical harm, becoming the Superpowered Warrior (怪力戦士, Kairiki Senshi). When used, half of Kamen Rider Double becomes the silver Fighting Left Half (闘士の左半身, Tōshi no Hidari Hanshin). When the Metal Memory is placed in the Maximum Slot on the Metal Shaft, it allows Kamen Rider Double to infuse the tips of the Metal Shaft with an elemental-powered Maximum Drive attack. First used in All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker.
    • Trigger Memory (トリガーメモリ, Torigā Memori): The Trigger Memory, also known as the Sniper Memory (銃撃手の記憶, Jūgekishu no Kioku), turns the user into an expert marksman, becoming the Gun Warrior (銃戦士, Jū Senshi). When used, half of Kamen Rider Double becomes the blue Sniping Left Half (狙撃手の左半身, Sogekishu no Hidari Hanshin). When the Trigger Memory is placed in the Maximum Slot on the Trigger Magnum, it allows Kamen Rider Double to fire an elemental-powered Maximum Drive attack.
  • Philip (right half side)
    • Cyclone Memory (サイクロンメモリ, Saikuron Memori): The Cyclone Memory, also known as the Windy Memory (風の記憶, Kaze no Kioku), allows the user to move at fast speeds, controlling the very power of wind, becoming the Windy Warrior (風の戦士, Kaze no Senshi). When used, half of Kamen Rider Double becomes the green Cyclonic Right Half (旋風の右半身, Senpū no Migi Hanshin). Forms using the Cyclone Memory possess a Windy Stabilizer (ウィンディスタビライザー, Windi Sutabiraizā), a silver scarf hanging from the neck.
    • Heat Memory (ヒートメモリ, Hīto Memori): The Heat Memory, also known as the Hot Memory (熱き記憶, Atsuki Kioku), empowers the user with the element of fire, becoming the Blazing Warrior (炎の戦士, Honō no Senshi). When used, half of Kamen Rider Double becomes the red Heated Right Half (熱き右半身, Atsuki Migi Hanshin). First used in All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker.
    • Luna Memory (ルナメモリ, Runa Memori): The Luna Memory, also known as the Illusion Memory (幻想の記憶, Gensō no Kioku), allows the user to cast illusions, stretching limbs and bending gunshots, becoming the Mysterious Warrior (神秘の戦士, Shinpi no Senshi). When used, half of Kamen Rider Double becomes the gold Fantastical Right Half (幻想の右半身, Gensō no Migi Hanshin).
  • Pseudo Memories (ギジメモリ, Giji Memori): The Pseudo Memories are artificial Gaia Memories which power the Memory Gadget (メモリガジェット, Memori Gajetto) support robots, allowing them to switch between their Gadget Mode (ガジェットモード, Gajetto Mōdo) and their Live Mode (ライブモード, Raibu Mōdo).
    • Stag Memory (スタッグメモリ, Sutaggu Memori): The Stag Memory allows the Stag Phone (スタッグフォン, Sutaggu Fon) Memory Gadget to switch between its Cell Phone Mode (携帯モード, Keitai Mōdo) and Stag Mode (スタッグモード, Sutaggu Mōdo).
    • Spider Memory (スパイダーメモリ, Supaidā Memori): The Spider Memory allows the Spider Shock (スパイダーショック, Supaidā Shokku) Memory Gadget to switch between its Wrist Watch Mode (腕時計モード, Udedokei Mōdo) and Spider Mode (スパイダーモード, Supaidā Mōdo).
    • Bat Memory (バットメモリ, Batto Memori): The Bat Memory allows the Bat Shot (バットショット, Batto Shotto) Memory Gadget to switch between its Digicam Mode (デジカメモード, Dejikame Mōdo) and Bat Mode (バットモード, Batto Mōdo).
    • Frog Memory (フロッグメモリ, Furoggu Memori): The Frog Memory allows the Frog Pod (フロッグポッド, Furoggu Poddo) Memory Gadget to switch between its Speaker Mode (スピーカーモード, Supīkā Mōdo) and Frog Mode (フロッグモード, Furoggu Mōdo).
    • Denden Memory (デンデンメモリ, Denden Memori): The Denden Memory allows the Denden Sensor (デンデンセンサー, Denden Sensā) Memory Gadget to switch between its Goggle Mode (ゴーグルモード, Gōguru Mōdo) and Denden Mode (デンデンモード, Denden Mōdo).
  • Sentient Memories
    • The Fang Memory (ファングメモリ, Fangu Memori), also known as the Fanged Memory (牙の記憶, Kiba no Kioku), is a special Gaia Memory that was solely created to protect Philip and act on his orders, enabling him and Shotaro to transform into Kamen Rider Double FangJoker. It can change between its Live Mode (ライブモード, Raibu Mōdo), which resembles a Dromaeosaurid, and its Memory Mode (メモリモード, Memori Mōdo), the top of which resembles a dinosaur's head. When used, half of Kamen Rider Double becomes the white Fanged Right Half (牙の右半身, Kiba no Migi Hanshin), enabling Kamen Rider Double to fight like a berserker while altering the left half to match it in being animalistic in design. Being made to protect Philip and act as his bodyguard, the Fang Memory shows up whenever he is in danger or whenever he calls for it. Unlike the normal transformations into Kamen Rider Double, this transformation is initiated by Phillip and the process causes Shotaro to fall comatose and transfer his mind until they revert to normal.[1]
    • The Xtreme Memory (エクストリームメモリ, Ekustorīmu Memori) is a special bird-like Gaia Memory that allows Kamen Rider Double to become CycloneJokerXtreme by changing from Live Mode (ライブモード, Raibu Mōdo) to Memory Mode (メモリモード, Memori Mōdo) in order to slide onto the Double Driver. It first appears when Philip is in mortal danger from being attacked by the Weather Dopant, and it digitizes him where Shroud confronts him about his mission to save the Earth. The Xtreme Memory's powers come directly from the true Gaia Memory and are accessed through the Crystal Server on CycloneJokerXtreme. To initiate its Maximum Drive, the Double Xtreme Rider Kick, the Xtreme Memory is closed and then re-opened. A variation of the Double Xtreme, the Double Prism Xtreme, is where Kamen Rider Double inserts the Prism Memory in the Maximum Slot of the Double Driver before closing and re-opening the Xtreme Memory. When Philip dissolves after his final battle as Kamen Rider Double, the Xtreme Memory which holds the data of his mind and body does as well. However, after Wakana sacrifices her life, she brings back the Xtreme Memory which holds Philip's body until his physical form is restored.[2]
  • Prism Memory (プリズムメモリ, Purizumu Memori): The Prism Memory is the Gaia Memory for the Prism Bicker sword and shield. It serves as a storage for other Gaia Memory powers and links the power of four Maximum Drives into one. When placed in the Maximum Slot of the Double Driver, it allows Kamen Rider Double CycloneJokerXtreme to execute the Double Prism Xtreme Maximum Drive.

  • Transformation Memories
    • Accel (アクセルメモリ, Akuseru Memori): The Accel Memory, or Acceleration Memory (加速の記憶, Kasoku no Kioku), is Kamen Rider Accel's primary Gaia Memory. This enables Ryu to transform into Kamen Rider Accel and access his primary Maximum Drive, as well as allow him to assume Bike Form.
    • The Trial Memory (トライアルメモリ, Toraiaru Memori), also known as the Challenge Memory (挑戦の記憶, Chōsen no Kioku), is a special Gaia Memory that allows Kamen Rider Accel to become Kamen Rider Accel Trial. While in Memory Mode (メモリモード, Memori Mōdo), the Trial Memory enables Kamen Rider Accel to transform; the transformation is complete once the light on the traffic light-like Trans-Signal (トランスシグナル, Toransu Shigunaru) flashes red, then yellow twice, then finally blue (with a 3-second countdown sound effect). While in its stop watch-like Maximum Mode (マキシマムモード, Makishimamu Mōdo), once the Maximum Switch (マキシマムスイッチ, Makishimamu Suitchi) timer button is pressed, Kamen Rider Accel Trial has ten seconds to perform as many attacks as possible, usually kicks and in one occasion, slashes, before pressing the Maximum Switch again to activate the Maximum Drive. If the Maximum Switch is not pressed within the time allotted, the Maximum Drive fails and Kamen Rider Accel's transformation is forcibly and painfully cancelled. To handle this, Kamen Rider Accel normally tosses the Trial Memory into the air as the Maximum Drive begins, pressing the Maximum Switch as soon as it is caught and declaring the time indicated when the timer is stopped. Later in the series, he gets a better grip on the timing to the point where he can stop the timer without tossing the Trail Memory.[3]
  • Artificial Memories
    • Engine Memory (エンジンメモリ, Enjin Memori): The Engine Memory is a Gaia Memory that gives the Engine Blade its various powers. It is not a true Gaia Memory however, and its powers are linked to those of the Accel Memory. This allows it to have more than one ability, each based on a different type of engine: Steam (スチーム, Suchīmu), which creates a wave or wall of hot steam; Jet (ジェット, Jetto), which allows the Engine Blade to execute super heated slashes or fire a bladed energy wave; and Electric (エレクトリック, Erekutorikku), which allows the Engine Blade to perform electrically charged slashes or fire a bolt of electricity. (sub memory)
    • Beetle Memory (ビートルメモリ, Bītoru Memori): The Beetle Memory allows the Beetle Phone (ビートルフォン, Bītoru Fon) Memory Gadget to switch between its Cell Phone Mode (携帯モード, Keitai Mōdo) and Beetle Mode (ビートルモード, Bītoru Mōdo).
  • Borrowed Memories
    • Cyclone Memory (サイクロンメモリ, Saikuron Memori): Ryu is briefly lent the Cyclone Memory by Philip to battle the Weather Dopant. When inserted into the Engine Blade, it allows Kamen Rider Accel to perform a wind-powered Maximum Drive strong enough to wound even the Weather Dopant.

  • Skull Memory (スカルメモリ, Sukaru Memori): The Skull Memory, also called the Skeleton Memory (骸骨の記憶, Gaikotsu no Kioku), is Kamen Rider Skull's only Gaia Memory, enabling his transformation as well as powering his Skull Magnum gun.

  • T2 Joker Memory (T2ジョーカーメモリ, Tī Tsū Jōkā Memori): Shotaro, having been given a Lost Driver by the spirit of Kamen Rider Skull, uses the T2 Joker Memory to first transform into Kamen Rider Joker. This Memory is later destroyed with the other 25 T2 Gaia Memories during the battle with NEVER, with the Lost Driver being lost as well.
  • Joker Memory (ジョーカーメモリ, Jōkā Memori): Following the loss of Philip, Shotaro uses his original Joker Memory to transform into Kamen Rider Joker once again, having been left a Lost Driver by Philip. After Philip's return, Shotaro still occasionally becomes Joker should Philip be too occupied to join him as Double.

  • Eternal Memory (エターナルメモリ, Etānaru Memori): The Eternal Memory was used by Katsumi Daido to first transform into Kamen Rider Eternal Red Flare.
  • T2 Eternal Memory (T2エターナルメモリ, Tī Tsū Etānaru Memori): The T2 Eternal Memory is used by Katsumi Daido to transform into Kamen Rider Eternal Blue Flare.

  • Invisible Memory (インビジブルメモリ, Inbijiburu Memori): This Memory is given to Lily Shirogane by Dr. Isaka, turning her into the Invisible Dopant (インビジブル・ドーパント, Inbijiburu Dōpanto). However, Isaka has modified the Invisible Memory such that she does not turn into a monstrous Dopant and making it impossible to remove from her body. She initially goes to the Narumi Agency for help in finding the man who gave it to her under the pretense that she wishes to have it removed, but instead she wants to be able to control the invisibility. Isaka agrees, stabilizing the Gaia Memory, only because he knows it will eventually kill her and he will be able to take it from her after she dies, giving him the power of invisibility without the Dopant transformation. However, by killing her and using his Engine Blade as a defibrillator to quickly revive her, Kamen Rider Accel removes the Invisible Memory and crushes it.
  • Quetzalcoatlus Memory (ケツァルコアトルスメモリ, Ketsarukoatorusu Memori): This Memory was intended by Dr. Isaka to be used on Nagi Shimamoto, which would have transformed her into the Quetzalcoatlus Dopant (ケツァルコアトルス・ドーパント, Ketsarukoatorusu Dōpanto). After he kills her father, she is made to be the Quetzalcoatlus Memory's user and both her compatibility with the Memory and her fear of Isaka makes it stronger for him to use later. Isaka makes a copy of the Quetzalcoatlus Memory and uses it on a Red-and-green Macaw to further frighten Nagi by showing a sample of the Memory's powers as the giant Quetzalcoatlus Dopant, the monster Isaka would have her become. The Dopant drags Nagi off until Kamen Rider Double saves her. The copied Dopant is defeated by CycloneJoker Xtreme's Bicker Charge Break. Kamen Rider Accel Trial later destroys the Quetzalcoatlus Memory before it can be used on Nagi to make it more powerful for Isaka's use.

  • Dummy Memory (ダミーメモリ, Damī Memori): This Memory is used by Father Roberto Shijima to transform into the Dummy Dopant (ダミー・ドーパント, Damī Dōpanto), which allows him to copy various other forms including Kamen Rider Skull, and other Dopants such as the Death Dopant (デス・ドーパント, Desu Dōpanto), during which time he claimed to be using the Death Gaia Memory, only revealing it to be a "D" Memory. Presumably destroyed with the destruction of Ultimate D, created from the absorption of the Dummy Dopant by Doras.
  • Shinigami Hakase Memory (死神博士メモリ, Shinigami Hakase Memori): This Memory was responsible for Eijiro Hikari assuming the identity of Doctor Shinigami (死神博士, Shinigami Hakase), an executive of the original Shocker, leading him to join Dai-Shocker. As with the original, this Doctor Shinigami persona was able to assume his cyborg squid form Ikadevil (イカデビル, Ikadebiru). It was in this monstorous form he was defeated and seemingly destroyed by the Kamen Riders, only for Eijiro to appear back at the Hikari Studio with no memory of being Doctor Shinigami. [Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker] In Movie War 2010, the ShinigamiHakase Memory is given to Eijiro by his longtime friend, Ryubee Sonozaki, transforming him into Super Doctor Shinigami (スーパー死神博士, Sūpā Shinigami Hakase), though his official name is the ShinigamiHakase Dopant (死神博士・ドーパント, Shinigami Hakase Dōpanto), the leader of Super Shocker against his will due to the influence of the Gaia Memory. However, Super Doctor Shinigami revert back to Eijiro as the Memory ejects out of him caused by Kamen Rider Double HeatMetal's HardMammother Maximum Drive and he is saved by Natsumi in her Kamen Rider Kiva-la form.

    The T2 Gaia Memories

T2 Gaia Memories are next-generation Gaia Memories developed independently by Foundation X and were started by Shroud's research before she left the Museum. They are carried at all times by Jun Kazu. Sometime later they are found by the terrorist organization, NEVER. All of them are similar in appearance to the Gaia Memories used by Kamen Riders but can be used to transform into a Dopant by direct insertion, or with a Memory Driver to become Kamen Riders. While identical to Kamen Rider's Memories in design, they have blue plugs instead of silver ones. While they can be ejected by way of Maximum Drives, they are usually incapable of being broken by such methods, which serves as a sign that T2 Gaia Memories are more resilent than their predecessors. These memories can also seemingly use their powers with one another like W can as Daido had shown when he used all their Maximum Drives at once.

Nevertheless, they were all eventually destroyed when Kamen Rider Eternal, who used all 26 of them at once, was defeated by Kamen Rider Double CycloneJokerGoldXtreme's Golden Xtreme.

A new batch of special Gaia Memories was released in 2013, more or less two years since Bandai stopped releasing Gaia Memories in any form — DX Candy Toy, Gashapon. One reason is the advent of Kamen Rider OOO's O Medals. Instead of Kamen Rider faces, the new releases feature logos of the riders' main form and/or final forms. Not only that, the new batch will include a full set of Showa Kamen Rider Memories, and Heisei Kamen Riders' Final Form (minus Wizard and future Riders) Memories.

There was a Gaia Memory Complete Selection that had Gaia Memories that weren't used in TV Shows or some of the movies.

A total of 99 Gaia Memories were released as part of the Kamen Rider W Gaia Memory Complete Selection. Several of them also appeared in Gaia Memories of Fate's net movie segments.

    Wizard

The Gaia Memories, along with the other Rider Powers, were stolen from Double by Amadum in the world within the Magic Stone, who explained that they were already his due to the Riders' powers being from the same source as evil. However, the power was soon returned thanks to the appearance of Kamen Rider Gaim, with the return of the Memories immediately transforming Double into CycloneJokerXtreme. [Neverending Story]

    Portrayal

The voice of the Gaia Memories is provided by Fumihiko Tachiki (立木 文彦, Tachiki Fumihiko), who is also the narrator of W.

    Notes

    • It seems that compatibility can greatly increase or decrease the being using the Gaia Memory`s powers as shown through the Joker, Cyclone, Skull, Eternal, Accel, and Utopia Memories.
    • Astroswitches, Lockseeds, and Rider Gashats take cues from Gaia Memories in design and function:
      • Both Rider Gashats and Gaia Memories are removed from the main belt and inserted into a secondary slot to activate their belt finishers.
      • All four of these devices can be inserted into weapons to activate weapon finishers.
      • Gaia Memories, Lockseeds, and Rider Gashats all have buttons that, when pressed, declare the name of the individual device. Astroswitches declare their name when inserted into the Fourze Driver.
      • The Double Driver and Gamer Driver both can utilize two Memories/Gashats at once, and there are Memories/Gashats that take up both slots.
      • They are all used by villains. Dopants use Memories to transform, Zodiarts use Zodiarts Switches to transform, Inves use Lockseeds to become more powerful, and Bugsters are born from games that have been made into Gashats, as well as the Collabos Bugsters using Gashats directly to gain armor.
      • Particularly powerful instances are much larger and sometimes come with unique functionality, such as the Fang Memory which transforms into a dinosaur and has its own Sengoku Driver-like finishers, the N and S Magnet Switches that combine into the NS MagPhone and can be used as gun triggers in Magnet States, the Kiwami Lockseed which connects to the Kachidoki Lockseed and can be turned to summon weapons, and the Gashat Gear Dual which contains two games, functions on its own, and can be used in the Gamer Driver for a super form.
    • The creation of Gaia Memory is very similar to the Materia from Final Fantasy VII, since both items are created from the knowledge from their respective planets.
    • The Joker Memory was given to Takeru Tenkuji and Makoto Fukami in the special Kamen Rider Ghost: Legendary! Riders' Souls! and it was the only one of the six Legendary Rider Collectibles given to them that wasn't either Red or Orange.
