Hiiro Kagami (鏡 飛彩, Kagami Hiiro) is a surgeon of Seito University Hospital who transforms into Kamen Rider Brave (仮面ライダーブレイブ, Kamen Raidā Bureibu).

History[]

Background[]

Hiiro Kagami is the son of Dr. Haima Kagami, the director of Seito University Hospital. Despite his father's clumsiness, he was inspired to become a doctor. At age nineteen, Hiiro entered Seito University as a medical student and had a relationship with Saki Momose. During the Zero Day event, Saki was infected with the Bugster Virus that spawned Graphite, who was incredibly powerful that not even Taiga Hanaya was able to defeat. When Hiiro learned of Saki's condition, she had enough time to encourage Hiiro to become the "best doctor in the world", before vanishing into data.

Following Saki's death, Hiiro largely blamed Taiga for her death in an attempt to suppress his guilt. Deep down, he believed his cold attitude worsened his girlfriend's condition. Hiiro also began eating pastries in between operations to remember Saki, who often offered him sweets to refuel himself. Hiiro would eventually be selected to undergo the compatibility surgery and became CR's second Kamen Rider.

The Genius Surgeon[]

Brave Debut

Hiiro after transforming into Brave Level 2.

Hiiro Kagami returned from the United States after being called back by his father to handle the new Bugster outbreak. He makes his presence to the pediatrics intern Emu Hojo who had been chosen as Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. Due to their different views of opinion, the apathetic Hiiro would always find himself at odds with Emu's idealism towards patients, constantly responding to the latter's presence with "No thank you". Using the Taddle Quest Gashat, he becomes Kamen Rider Brave.

DRMF Brave

Brave transformed into Level 3.

He would also reunite with Taiga Hanaya, the man who failed to save Saki and currently stealing the other Rider Gashats as Kamen Rider Snipe. Sometime after Kiriya Kujo made his presence as Kamen Rider Lazer, Hiiro discovered Graphite was the Bugster that spawned from Saki. Despite this got him sidetracked from his role from a doctor, it was through Emu's intervention that allowed him to regain his resolve.

Although Hiiro fights alongside the three Kamen Riders, he is constantly at odds with them due to their viewpoints and ulterior motives. In the final battle against Graphite, Emu used the Drago Knight Hunter Z's power to be equally distribute and joining forces. Despite having avenging Saki's death, Hiiro realized that the deed was nothing but meaningless, as he still failed in saving her.

Kamen Rider Heisei Generations: Dr. Pac-Man vs. Ex-Aid & Ghost with Legend Riders[]

Doctor Riders came to help

Hiiro was present during threat of Dr. Pac-Man and the Next Genome Institute as they sought to unleash the Pac-Man Virus. He joined forces with his fellow doctors and Kamen Rider Ghost's allies against the Next Genome Institute.

Kamen Rider Ex-Aid "Tricks": Kamen Rider Genm[]

"It's game, set for you."
―Brave's proclamation in Famista Quest Gamer Level 3 before a finisher[src]

Hiiro along with Taiga confronts Dr. Pac-Man who had taken Emu away from the Black Ex-Aid, accompanied by the three Kamen Riders that he had summoned. Dr. Pac-Man provides the trio with the Bandai Namco Gashats, with Hiiro receiving the Famista Gashat. Transforming, Brave Famista Quest Gamer faces off against the batter Kamen Rider OOO and his baseball team of Bugster Virus. Ultimately prevailing in the match, Brave performs Famista's Critical Strike to defeat the opponent Kamen Rider.

After Ex-Aid recovers the Ganbarizing Gashat, Brave along with Snipe demanded the Gashat for themselves only for all three Riders to be swiftly eluded by "Dr. Pac-Man" who recovered all the Bandai Namco Gashats and the Ganbarizing Gahsat. It is this point where the Kamen Rider realized they are being manipulated by Dr. Pac-Man and the Black Ex-Aid. Ex-Aid was defeated by the Black Ex-Aid's Critical Strike using the seventeen Heisei Rider predecessors, allowing him to defeat all three Riders with a single Rider Kick before taking his leave.

The Dark Christmas[]

During Christmas Eve, Hiiro and the Kamen Riders finally learns that CEO of Genm Corp., Kuroto Dan, is the true identity of the "Black Ex-Aid", who christens himself as Kamen Rider Genm. Hiiro discovered Kuroto Dan's goal to collect the data of Gashats. Although finally gaining Kiriya's trust, the latter was quickly killed by Kuroto in order to prevent the secret behind Emu's compatibility with the Gamer Driver from being revealed.

Following the new year, Hiiro began overseeing Emu after the latter promoted to surgical intern. However, the grief of Kiriya's death had affected Emu's performance in the operating table and his prowess in fighting the Bugster. After Hiiro suspended him and confiscated his Gashats, he encounters Genm Level X once more but finds himself witnessing Emu's first transformation using the Mighty Brothers XX Gashat.

Kamen Rider Brave: ~Let's Survive! Revival of the Beast Rider Squad!~[]

"My scalpel is justice!"
―Brave before battling Ouja[src]

Hiiro's talent would be recognized by the world in February as he won the Doctor of the Year award, which would be acknowledged as he flew to New York to receive it. On the 20th, where he was faced with a conference, examination and a surgery, he was given the plane ticket by Mizuki and Satsuki, whom he scolded when they admitted that a PET scan still needed to be reexamined, citing that the smallest margin of error could cost a patient their life.

Proceeding to Level 4

Using the Night of Safari Gashat, Hiiro proceeds to Level 4.

Kamen Rider Ouja, Takeshi Asakura, had mysteriously resurfaced with a Beast Rider Squad rallying with him and launched an assault on Mizuki and Satsuki. After he found Emu beaten, Hiiro recovered the Night of Safari Gashat found in the former's hand and rescues Mizuki as he confronted Asakura himself. Engaging the the serial killer his army of Rider clones, Hiiro used the Gashat to assume Brave Safari Gamer Level 4 and defeat Ouja and the Beast Rider Squad. Afterwards, he seemingly lost the Night of Safari Gashat and resumed treating his nurses as he cancelled his flight to America. While Mizuki and Satsuki thanked him, Hiiro, however, preserved his cold demeanor as he justified his sacrifice by assuring that he would have many other opportunities to be acknowledged in the future.

The Patient Zero Revelation[]

While he slowly developed a mutual respect towards Emu, Hiiro learnt of his status as Game Disease patient and initially tried to keep it as a secret with Taiga Hanaya to find a way to cure the intern. However, their attempts were stopped when Parado transformed into Kamen Rider Para-DX. Hirro would also lose all his Gashats at the hands of Genm to create "Taddle Legacy".

Red eyes Brave

Brave Level 50's power nearly takes over his mind.

"I am...the world's best...doctor! I won't let anyone take control of me. The strong resolve to accomplish a mission...is the sign of a doctor entrusted with people's lives!"
―Brave overcoming Taddle Fantasy's dark magic.[src]

Eventually, Kuroto revealed to Emu about his true nature as Patient Zero and created a short outburst that ended with him fainting. However, this would erratically affect Emu under the influence of "Genius Gamer M". Hirro was left at wit's end but manages to swipe the Gashat Gear Dual β from Genm. After suppressing the Gashat's control, this allowed him to access Level 50 and his words allow Emu to regain his old self. Since he recovered the Taddle Quest and Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashats, Hiiro would share Gashat Gear Dual β with Taiga.

Hiiro would learn that the Kamen Riders and the Bugster Virus were intended to be part of Kuroto's ultimate game, Kamen Rider Chronicle and Kuroto managed to unlock Dangerous Zombie's true potential as Level X. After finding Kiriya's research of rewriting the Bugster Virus, Hiiro puts the research to use in conjunction with the blank Gashat that Taiga purchased from Tsukuru Koboshi. This, combined with Emu's natural Bugster Virus brings forth the creation of Maximum Mighty X, providing the Riders with the advantage to surpass Kuroto's immortality and strip him of his powers.

Kamen Rider Chronicle[]

Following the defeat of Kuroto Dan, Hiiro discovers that Kamen Rider Chronicle had released to the public, now orchestrated by the Bugsters to destroy humanity. Upon learning that clearing the game could bring back Game Illness victims, Hiiro began collecting some Gashatrophies. During the course of the events, Hiiro learned Parado was indeed Emu's Bugster and Poppy would revive Kuroto Dan under their supervision.

As the Kamen Riders would face off against the high tier Bugsters, Masamune Dan reveals himself to be the true mastermind and becomes Kamen Rider Cronus. Because of his exploitation in the use of Pause and holding the Proto Gashats that held the Game Over victims, Hiiro was forced to betray his allies and work with Cronus in order to save Saki. Masamune would gift him with the Taddle Legacy Gashat to use when he has a steeled resolve. The guilt of betraying his teammates and struggle to restore Sawa affected Hiiro emotionally. He had to endure Sawa repeating her final words, almost taunting him.

"You're the cancer of this world... I will eliminate you!"
―Hiiro's vow to defeat Masamune[src]

After Ex-Aid defeated Cronus using Hyper Muteki, Masamune initially threatened him to kill Emu but changed his target to Parado to prevent Emu from transforming again. While this gave him the resolve to harness the power of Taddle Legacy, Taiga was put in critical condition during a fight against Graphite. Masamune gave him orders to kill Taiga in the operating table, but Hiiro chose to save his life in an emergency surgery. While Masamune subsequently deleted Saki's data, giving Hiiro the purpose to fight Cronus and reunite with CR, while tearfully accepting Saki was indeed gone for good.

After Taiga had completely recovered, they began to work together to take down their common enemy Graphite once and for all. For Hiiro, it was for him making up for losing Sawa's life from the beginning. Together, Kamen Riders Brave and Snipe defeated Graphite in battle and allowed Nico Saiba to take the final shot. After some trials and tribulations, the Kamen Riders advanced to the final stage of Rider Chronicle, preparing to confront the last boss Gamedeus.

The Gamedeus Pandemic[]

With Gamedeus and his Bugster Virus pandemic spreading rapidly, Ex-Aid and Para-DX fought against him while the Hiiro and Taiga stayed behind to take care of the patients. Although the Doctor Mighty XX Gashat was developed to weaken him, Masamune barged in to absorbed the Bugster into his own body at the last minute. Brave would later fought with Ex-Aid and Snipe to face Gamedeus Cronus. Through the sacrifice of Poppy and Parado, the Kamen Riders were able to neutralize Super Gamedeus's virus and separate him from Masamune Dan.

Endless Game

The doctor Riders facing Cronus for the last time.

While all hope seemed lost, Hiiro participates with the remaining Kamen Riders the final stand against Cronus by reverting back to Brave Gamer Level 2 to defeat Cronus once and for all. However, in their final confrontation, Masamune kills himself with the Master Gashat, this removing the only way to rescue the data of the patients within the Proto Gashats. Afterwards, he watches Emu presenting his televised speech on behalf of the Ministry of Health and is amused after hearing the mention of Saki as a victim of the Bugster Virus.

Hiiro later demonstrates a surgical technique on a cream puff to two new interns at the hospital. He quietly promises to the picture of him and Saki that he will bring her smile back.

Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: True Ending[]

Set after the Kamen Riders defeated Kamen Rider Cronus, a new outbreak of the Bugster virus occurs one rainy day as Kamen Rider Fuma storms Seito University Hospital with his Ninja Gamers. Hiiro is infected and his mind is sent into the Game World where he assumes the role as Madoka Hoshi's father. After Ex-Aid arrived and used the power of Mighty Creator VRX to teleport everyone back to the real world, Hiiro's consciousness was returned to his body.

While confronting Kagenari Nagumo on his actions, the true threat arises when Johnny Makishima reveals himself as the "true last boss" and transforms into Gamedeus Machina. While Hiiro joined with the Kamen Riders to combat the Bugster, he was able to overwhelm all of the six that were present. When Madoka Hoshi's condition was getting worse from her Game Illness, Hiiro joined with Emu and Asuna to operate on her. After the operation ended, Brave joined in the battle against Gamedeus Machina and healed Snipe and Lazer from their injuries using Taddle Legacy. In the end, Ex-Aid Muteki Gamer manages to vanquish Gamedeus Machina and peace has finally returned.

One year later, Hiiro is overseeing the training of new surgeons at the hospital, who are using the Genm VR system to simulate a surgical operation. Director Kagami enters the room to inform his son the Ministry of Health needs a surgeon to operate on a patient. Hiiro smiles and says that there is nothing he cannot cut and heads out.

Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders[]

Doctor Riders vs

One week after Kamen Rider Build stole Emu's powers, Nebula Bugsters start to appear due to the effects of Enigma, an inter-dimensional gateway connecting his reality to the Build's world. This alerts the CR, who attempt to solve the issue without Ex-Aid, but they are also rendered powerless due to the effects of Enigma, controlled by Right Kaiser. Kuroto Dan eventually created the Kamen Rider Build Gashats in order to enable to Doctor Riders to continue fight while their Earth and Build's Earth were vast approaching, where it was stopped by the united forces between Ex-Aid & Build.

Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Trilogy: Another Ending[]

Two years after the Enigma crisis, Hiiro informs Taiga Hanaya about Kuroto Dan's escape from CR's custody. He and Kiriya Kujo discuss with Saiko Yaotome about moving forward with the regenerative medicine to restore victims of Game Illness. However, Hiiro rencounters his deceased girlfriend, Saki Momose, who was believed to be lost but restored alongside the Loverica Bugster. While Brave fights Loverica, he learns that if he defeats the Bugster, then Saki's data will be lost once more. This causes him to come into blows with Taiga as he was treating his patient, Luke Kidman, who was infected with Loverica's infection. After Taiga uses Cronus' power to undo Loverica's brainwashing on Saki, Hiiro fought as Brave Legacy Gamer Level 100 to vanquish the Bugster once and for all. Before Saki disappeared, Hiiro was able to say his apologies to his beloved and is assured to keep her promise into being the "world's greatest doctor".

When Poppy Pipopapo was pursued by the KyurangersIcon-crosswiki, Hiiro engaged them alongside Emu and Taiga, briefly fighting with Sasori OrangeIcon-crosswiki and Ookami BlueIcon-crosswiki before the fight was interrupted by the Galaxian ships. Hiiro would come face to face with a doppelgänger of himself from the Game World, who assumed the Legacy Gamer Level 50 to become Kamen Rider True Brave.

Hiiro had a connection with Chou Super Hero Taisen's creator, Eight Kirino, whom he failed to save from his condition. The Game World's Hiiro is a representation of his past mistakes, leading to Hiiro engaged him with his own Fantasy Gamer. Hiiro ultimately bested his other self who then relinquished to him a cache of items which would allow him to conclude the Chou Shocker Taisen in which he would fight with various Kamen Riders and Sentai RangersIcon-crosswiki against the Shocker army of the Game World led by Shocker Leader III. He also uses the Galaxian Gashat to assume Galaxian Gamer and even gives an Energy Item to Ex-Aid Maximum Gamer, enlarging him and allowing him to join the Kyurangers in vanquishing the Oogumo Great Leader.

Personality[]

Hiiro eating cake

Hiiro eating desserts to mourn his girlfriend.

While Hiiro is intelligent and capable, he is also cold and arrogant. He firmly opposes personal involvement with his patients, as he believes that personal feelings will only interfere with his performance. Therefore, he initially looks down on Emu, deeming him unworthy to work in CR due to his inexperience and conflicting ideals, although he starts to warm up to the intern over time. He is the only one to question Kuroto's somewhat dubious behavior, showing some level of perceptiveness. Hiiro has a liking for desserts, mainly cakes or pies, which he claims is to increase his energy in between operations. This quirk is later revealed as a form of mourning for his late girlfriend, who always gave him desserts when he studied. While remembering Saki, Hiiro begins to question if revenge was really worth it, showing that he had doubts about vengeance instead of being utterly consumed by it like Taiga was.

Hiiro treats his fighting against Bugsters like an operation. He has a habitual quirk of raising his hands in the position most surgeons use when they are about to operate on a patient, and refers to the Gashacon Sword as his "scalpel". He often also speaks in a mannerism akin to his civilian job after transforming, in the form of his pre-battle catchphrase. He will only cancel his transformation should he deem the situation very risky (primarily when his Rider Gauge is almost depleted). When he encounters someone he doesn't like or doesn't believe that they belong in the situation, he will always respond to their presence by saying "No thank you" (ノーさんきゅうー Nō san kyū).

Due to Hiiro referring to anything that can be used for cutting like a scalpel, his habit with words can sometimes make people misunderstand the meaning of what he is really saying. This was shown when eating at a public cafe, he asked for a scalpel instead of a knife. However, he quickly corrected himself after realizing his mistake.

Upon learning the extent of Kamen Rider Chronicle in regards to reviving those who died of the Bugster infection, including Saki, Hiiro becomes curious about this, to the point of continuing to think about bringing Saki back to him, but this trait was, in turn, his fatal flaw. Masamune Dan takes advantage of this and thus blackmails the surgeon into working for him, which results in him having an internal conflict within himself between his profession as a doctor and his love for Saki. This conflict ended with him committing to his profession and saving people as his first priority, but he still regretted being unable to save Saki, to the point of bitterly crying.

In the end, his second reunion with Saki would be their final one, as Kuroto reveals that that her restoration was merely temporary. When Saki officially passed away from the disease, Hiiro finally gained closure at last, since she asked him to forget about her and focus on helping those that can be saved, unlike her. This newfound resolve comes full-circle in the ending of Genm vs. Lazer, where he manages to restore Kiriya's original body.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Acquired Game Disease Immunity: As a result of the standard compatibility surgery for CR candidates, Hiiro Kagami is immune to the Game Disease and able to transform into a Kamen Rider to fight the Bugsters. Unlike Taiga, Hiiro's initial uses of higher-level Gashats inflicted physical damage and strained his body until he acclimated to the power.

Abilities[]

  • Gifted Intellect: Hiiro has shown to quickly learn new concepts to make up for a previous failure. This was seen early on in the series when he first had difficulty with the rhythm mechanic of a game but started using said mechanic to full effect by employing CPR rhythm to maintain the pace of his attack.
  • Master Physician: Although Hiiro is only age 24, he is already a extremely skilled surgeon, considered by many to be a genius in his field. Hiiro once worked for a prestigious hospital in the United States, before being called back by his father to handle the new Bugster outbreak. His genius surgical skill allowed him to flawlessly perform extremely complicated surgeries with little to no mechanical assistance. He specializes in heart surgery, but he is also very capable of performing other operations.
  • Expert Swordsman: Hiiro is shown to be capable in using swords and displayed considerable skill in swordsmanship, comparing them to scalpels. This can be seen when he decapitated a Giant Bugster using a generic sword. This also shown as when he sliced a cream puff in episode 6, he didn't bring the knife in contact with the cream puff, but still equally cut into 4 pieces.
  • Skilled Combatant: Hiiro has shown himself to be a skilled fighter, being able to easily take on Bugster viruses as a civilian using medical techniques.

  • Height: 203.5 cm
  • Weight: 120.1 kg
Ability Parameters
  • Punching Power: 61.7 t
  • Kicking Power: 71.6 t
  • Maximum Jump Height: 57.0 m
  • Maximum Running Speed: 100 m per 2.2 sec.

Fantasy Gamer Level 50 (ファンタジーゲーマーレベル50, Fantajī Gēmā Reberu Fifuti) is Brave's super form, accessed by using the Taddle Fantasy side of the Gashat Gear Dual β in the Gamer Driver. In this form, the Fantasy Gamer fuses with Brave, becoming part of his armor.

In this form, Brave's stats skyrocket to be even more powerful than Para-DX, a Rider that is on the same Level as him in this form, though he loses in jumping height by both of Para-DX's forms and Punching Power by Para-DX Fighter Gamer Level 50.

He also gains telekinetic abilities, as well as levitation, enhanced sensitivity, and reflexes. His cape can be used in a manner similar to Kamen Rider Knight's Guard Vent, shielding himself from attacks. He can also slash enemies with his cape and open portals to send rocket-like Bugsters flying at the enemy.

As shown in Episode 20, he is also able to cancel the effects of the Energy Items, which in this episode's case, canceling the Stretch Energy Item's effect of Para-DX. In addition, he can create magical projections of his weapon and send them flying at the enemy.

Fantasy Gamer adds on the following parts:

  • BR Head-FAN 50 (BRヘッド-FAN50, BR Heddo-FAN50): Kamen Rider Brave Fantasy Gamer Level 50 head.
    • Solemn Face Visor (ソレムンフェイスバイザー, Soremun Feisu Baizā): Kamen Rider Brave Fantasy Gamer's face visor. Its shape is based on the player character of Taddle Fantasy, and it protects the head from damage while strengthening the sensors in the head.

    • Grand Darkness Horn (グランダークネスホーン, Guran Dākunesu hōn): The horns on Kamen Rider Brave Fantasy Gamer's head. It can read the intention of the rider and summon a Bugster Virus army under their control.
  • Dark Lord Cuirass (ダークロードキュイラス, Dāku Rōdo Kyuirasu): The chest armor. There is a device called the "Enhance Gear Beta (エンハンスギアベータ, Enhansu Gia Bēta)" to release the limits on all the suit's functions to forcibly bring out greater power at the cost of straining the user.
  • Warfare Mantle (ウォーフェアマント, Wōfea Manto): The cape. It allows Brave to summon a Bugster virus army. It can also attack by changing its shape and quick movements.
  • Conscript Shoulder (コンスクリプトショルダー, Konsukuriputo Shorudā): Kamen Rider Brave Fantasy Gamer's shoulder pads. They increase the power of the Gashacon Sword. They can also create energy barriers with the arms and repel enemy attacks.

This form's finisher is the Mystic Illusion (ミスティックイリュージョン, Misutikku Iryūjon): This finisher has three variations:

  • Rider Kick: Brave surrounds himself with a magical shield to block any incoming attacks, then expands the shield to surround himself and his enemy, and delivers a powerful kick at them.
  • Rider Slash
    • Brave delivers a purple energy X cross slash with the Gashacon Sword.
    • Brave expands the tornado to surround his enemy and delivers a straight slash with the Gashacon Sword.

At first, the Fantasy Gamer tries to take control of him, sending an army of Bugster Viruses to fight against Ex-Aid, but he quickly managed to overcome the Gamer's dark power by force of will and turn the Bugster Viruses against Genm.

Despite its power, this form causes immense strain to Hiiro's body due to his highest level being Level 5. While Hiiro took longer to adjust to Level 50's power than Snipe, he seemed to have successfully done so by episode 34.

  • Maximum Running Speed: 100 m per 1.0 sec.

Legacy Gamer Level 100 (レガシーゲーマーレベル100, Regashī Gēmā Reberu Handoreddo) is Brave's final form, accessed by inserting the Taddle Legacy Gashat in the Gamer Driver. In this form, the Legacy Gamer fuses with Brave, becoming part of his armor.

This form was originally used by True Brave in the Game World. The second Taddle Legacy Gashat was created by Masamune Dan using the data of Taddle Fantasy, and he then gave it to Hiiro.

Just as Hiiro has seemingly acclimated to the power of Level 50, his newfound resistance has allowed him to utilize the power of Taddle Legacy's Level 100 without issue.

In this form, Brave receives a massive boost in power, easily surpassing Para-DX Perfect Knock Out Gamer Level 99 in every stat. However, his stats are nowhere close to Ex-Aid Muteki Gamer and Cronus, and ironically, even losing to Ex-Aid Maximum Gamer Level 99 by small margins.

Similar to Parado, Hiiro makes up for these disadvantages through his combat skills. In this form Brave can also create energy arrows around himself to attack his enemy. These arrows are able to home in on enemies as well. Brave also has several defensive abilities, such as absorbing projectile attacks and healing himself.

Empowered with the Hyper Muteki Gashat when inserted into the Gamer Driver's secondary slot, Brave temporarily activates a Muteki Mode (ムテキモード, Muteki Mōdo) which grants the Rider using it 10 seconds of invincibility.[Destiny Reboot!]

Legacy Gamer adds on the following parts:

  • Grand Legacy Cuirass (グランレガシーキュイラス, Guran Regashī Kyuirasu): The chest armor. By maximizing the power of the Demon Lord, the limits on all the suit's functions are released to forcibly bring out greater power at the cost of straining the user.
  • Sanctuary Mantle (サンクチュアリマント, Sankuchuari Manto): The cape. The cape gives Brave the power of the hero and restores his strength over time. It also allows Brave to release healing magic and heal his allies and attack by changing its shape and quick movements.
  • Master Brave Shoulder (マスターブレイブショルダー, Masutā Bureibu Shorudā): Kamen Rider Brave Legacy Gamer's shoulder pads. They increase the power of the Gashacon Sword. They generate an energy barrier that can withstand enemy attacks for a certain period of time.

This form has two finishers:

  • Kimewaza Slot Holder finisher:
    • Taddle Critical Strike (タドルクリティカルストライク, Tadoru Kuritikaru Sutoraiku): This finisher has two variations. During those variations, Brave spreads out a pair of white angel wings on his back.
      • Rider Kick: Brave charges his leg with blue energy and floats in the air, before performing a powerful kick at the enemy covered with blue, white and gold energy. This attack is strong enough to break the shield granted by the Iron-Body Energy Item.
      • Rider Slash: Brave charges his whole body and his Gashacon Sword Fire Mode with light blue and gold energy, before jumping up in the air and performing a powerful slash, which then turns into two light blue fireballs at the enemy.
  • Gashacon Sword finisher:
    • Taddle Critical Finish (タドルクリティカルフィニッシュ, Tadoru Kuritikaru Finisshu)
      • Fire: Brave delivers a powerful fiery slash to the enemy that turns into a fireball.

Proto Hunter Quest Gamer Level 0 (Dragon Blade) (プロトハンタークエストゲーマーレベル0 (ドラゴンブレード), Puroto Hantā Kuesuto Gēmā Reberu Zero (Doragon Burēdo)) is Brave's upgrade form accessed by inserting the Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat along with the Taddle Quest Gashat into the Gamer Driver and pulling the lever.

This form is acquired when all four doctor Riders (Ex-Aid, Brave, Snipe, and Lazer) use the virtual Gashats created from the original Proto Drago Knight Hunter Gashat. In this form, Brave is equipped with the Shoulder Drago Armor, Leg Drago Armor and Dragon Blade on Brave's right shoulder, arm and leg. In this form, due to the co-op nature of Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z, the stats of all four Riders are equal.

This form's finisher is the Drago Knight Critical Strike (ドラゴナイトクリティカルストライク, Dorago Naito Kuritikaru Sutoraiku): Brave along with the other doctor Riders deliver consecutive energy attacks to the enemy (In Brave's case, he creates energy slashes with the Dragon Blade which fly towards the enemy), effectively destroying the said enemy.

As stated in Men, Fly High!, Prototype Gashats have unlimited power, but prolonged usage would eventually destroy the user's body.

  • Kamen Rider Brave (仮面ライダーブレイブ, Kamen Raidā Bureibu)

Family[]

  • Haima Kagami: Despite being a family, Hiiro acts cold toward his father, once scolding him to not talk too much, but Haima always does his best to help him. Haima was willing to risk his life and his title as Director by becoming a Ride-Player and being infected with the Lovelica Game Disease strain in order to clear Kamen Rider Chronicle and revive Saki Momose. When Haima's identity is revealed, Hiiro tells the others to retreat for his father's safety. When Asuna comments that Haima can be serious at times, Hiiro confirms her statement and reveals that his father is his motivation to become a doctor. [Judgement Received!] Upon hearing Kiriya info about Masamune last order to Hiiro (Which is to sabotage his operation to reclaim Saki), Haima believed that his son will never do things that lowly, which proved by Hiiro himself.
  • Unnamed Veterinarian: Mother[19]

Relationships[]

Love Interest[]

  • Saki Momose: Saki deeply loves Hiiro, although Hiiro didn't reciprocate her feelings in order for him to continue studying. Saki's death is the one thing that motivates Hiiro to become a Kamen Rider. Hiiro also said that he'll do anything to see her one more time. This is also the reason why Hiiro decides to betray his fellow teammates in CR, as Masamune Dan promises to revive Saki (which he actually does, albeit without her consciousness), implicating that Hiiro actually really loves her in return. At first, Hiiro was determined to bring her back at all cost. But, after Taiga was beaten up by Graphite and had a severe Hemorrhaging, Hiiro remembered Saki last word and decide to Save Taiga instead of killing him. Saki data then get deleted, and after Hiiro, along with Emu defeat Masamune in Legacy and Muteki Gamer respectively, Hiiro mourn her loss amidst the rain. [Period with Tears] Hiiro eventually finds out Kuroto brought her back, linking her with Lovelica. With Taiga's help with the power of Cronus, Hiiro was able to see and apologize to Saki this one time before she vanishes.

Allies[]

  • Seito University Hospital
    • Emu Hojo/Kamen RIder Ex-Aid: Although they often partnered during their battle with Bugsters, Hiiro sees Emu as nothing but an Intern (研修医, Kenshūi) and also 'No Thank You', in return Emu didn't really like him either, going so far to say that Hiiro isn't a real doctor twice. Hiiro has slowly warmed up to him, showing concern when he learned that Emu was infected with the Bugster virus and even saying that he "wanted to cure the patient right in front of him" in regards to Emu. This got extended to when Emu wakes up as "Genius Gamer M", Hiiro is greatly angered and grabbed Emu by the coat so he can snap out of his delusions. Later on, he recants what he thought about Emu before, saying he was very harsh on him before. When Emu first know that Hiiro defect CR and become Masamune right-hand man, Emu acknowledged that Hiiro was blackmailed, rather than defecting on his own free will to get Saki back. Emu also believe that Hiiro will return to CR eventually, and when Hiiro ask Emu to fight alongside with him once more, Emu complies. In Kamen Rider Zi-O, Hiiro no longer calls Emu an intern and instead refers to him as a pediatrician.
    • Asuna Karino/Poppy Pipopapo/Kamen RIder Poppy: Hiiro's usually apathetic towards her but in return, she develops some fear toward Hiiro. She even obeys several orders from him such as when he asked Poppy to use her knife to cut an apple pie.
    • Taiga Hanaya/Kamen Rider Snipe: Hiiro holds a grudge against him since Taiga is responsible for letting his late girlfriend die from Graphite's infection. His resentment of Taiga's actions were enough for Hiiro to claim that Taiga was "not qualified to be a Kamen Rider". When Taiga takes the Gashat Gear Dual β from Hiiro after suffering the strain of his own Level 50 form, Taiga reminds Hiiro that he might end up becoming the broken and bitter man he is now if Hiiro is not careful with his pragmatic methods, and also tend his wounds [Take Off Against the Direction of the Wind!] Later on, Hiiro realized that Taiga only put on the front act as he actually the one who knows everything about becoming the Gamer Rider, especially learning that Taiga hold the regret for unable to save Saki as equal as Hiiro. This led Hiiro to tend Taiga's dying wound and finally rekindle their comradeship and no longer hold grudge to each other. Taiga eventually helps save Saki for him against Lovelica.
    • Kiriya Kujo/Kamen RIder Lazer (Turbo): Kiriya seems to hold no ill feelings toward Hiiro, but Hiiro distrusts him due to his liar nature, right up until Kuroto revealing himself to be Genm, which Kiriya had previously warned about. Later on, some time after Kiriya's death, as Hiiro found the data that Kiriya had left behind, he finally realized that Kiriya's true intentions were to find a way to stop the Bugster threat once and for all. Coincidentally, after Kiriya's revival as a Bugster, both of them now become Masamune Dan underlings.
  • Genm Corp
    • Kuroto Dan/Kamen RIder Genm: Although somehow dubious from Kuroto's behavior, Hiiro seems to respect him, unaware that Kuroto is actually Genm until Kuroto revealed himself as Genm, whereas both Hiiro and the three other Doctor Riders were too late to notice and stop Kuroto's first plans, such as his manipulation of the Riders and the creation of death data from the Dangerous Zombie Gashat through clearing 10 produced Gashat games from succeeding. Even worst part, ones Emu found out full infos in regarding of his status on how he became a progenitor to Bugster Viruses and the viruses' further origin in Y2K from Kuroto's father Masamune, Hiiro and the detective Heiji Uesugi found out that Kuroto was the one who infected Heiji's son and Saki as the result of one of the Bugsters like Graphite completely manifest the infection progress and the hosts disappeared into nothingness.
  • Mizuki Mizoguchi and Satsuki Ogimachi: Both of them was saved by Hiiro several years ago, and thus they both willingly become Hiiro personal Nurses to aid him to become the best doctor in the world. Hiiro often acts cold to them, but they already understand and put their faith on him. Hiiro also saved them when they both are badly assaulted by Takeshi Asakura, although he refused to admit it. [Kamen Rider Brave: ~Let's Survive! Revival of the Beast Rider Squad!~]

Enemies[]

  • Graphite: Hiiro holds a grudge against Graphite, since Graphite was born from his late girlfriend. After receiving Emu's plea, Hiiro holds a determination to finish Graphite off. Graphite in return sees Hiiro as nothing before, but after his defeat, he swore to destroy him using his own hands. Hiiro finally gets to avenge Saki with the help of the other Doctor Riders, but refuses to admit it.
  • Lovelica/Ren Amagasaki: Hiiro fought against Lovelica when he was revived by Kuroto. And Saki was under his control.
  • Genm Corp
    • Masamune Dan: Masamune takes interest in Hiiro after revealing his identity as Cronus. He successfully manages to blackmail Hiiro by showing him the Proto Drago Knight Hunter Z Gashat, which contains the data of Hiiro's late girlfriend, Saki. Later, Hiiro betrays CR and becomes Masamune's right hand man. Hiiro feels uneasy around Masamune even after he revives Saki (albeit without her consciousness). He later becomes agitated by Masamume, as the latter confiscates his Gashat Gear Dual β without explanation. It is then revealed that Masamune used the data of Taddle Fantasy to create the Taddle Legacy Gashat. Upon Masamune first defeat on Ex-Aid Muteki Gamer, Masamune unleashed his Anger to Hiiro and ordered him to Kill Parado in order to make Emu unable to transform, or Saki data'll be permanently erased. Although this make Hiiro fortify his resolve and able him to use Taddle Legacy, this starts to drive a wedge in their partnership. Later, as Taiga was beaten up by Graphite and had severe hemorrhaging, Masamune order him to sabotage Taiga's operation. But, remembering Saki's last words, Hiiro saves him instead. Thus, their partnership ends after Masamune deletes Saki's data. Hiiro then said that Masamune is the world's cancer, and he will end him once and for all. [Period with Tears]

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

Hiiro Kagami is portrayed by Toshiki Seto (瀬戸 利樹, Seto Toshiki). As Kamen Rider Brave, his suit actor is Jiro Uchikawa (内川 仁朗, Uchikawa Jirō) in Level 1 and Jun Watanabe (渡辺 淳, Watanabe Jun) in Level 2.[20]Brave is the last Secondary Rider role for Jun Watanabe in the Heisei Phase 2, Eitoku takes over in the next season following after Ex-Aid.

Etymology[]

  • Hiiro's given name sounds similar to Hero (ヒーロー, Hīrō), a usual term used for fantasy RPGs.
  • The name "Brave" reflects his associated knight motif and his performance as a surgeon during an operation.
    • Brave in Japanese translation, can additionally mean Yūsha (勇者) which can also mean 'hero'.

Notes[]

  • His first transformation by having his nurses presenting his Gamer Driver and Taddle Quest Rider Gashat without doing the tasks himself is in itself a reference to surgeons. Surgeons cannot touch anything with their hands before operating on a patient or they otherwise risk giving the patient an infection or some other form of contamination to their bodies during surgery.
  • Brave's Levels refer to the group alignments in RPGs: Heroes (Taddle Quest, Taddle Legacy), Neutral (DoReMiFa Beat, Drago Knight Hunter Z) and Villains (Taddle Fantasy).
    • Additionally, Brave transforming to Level 50 is a nod to certain game protagonists who experience a face-heel turn, shifting into antagonists in later sequel publications or DLC (downloadable content) stories. Brave would have also turned against the heroes during a period of time.
    • Each Gamer form is also based on classes of RPG characters: Quest Gamer is a Knight/Warrior, Fantasy Gamer is a Dark Knight/Dark Magic Classes, Hunter Quest Gamer is a Monster Knight and Legacy Gamer is a Paladin.
  • Ironically, Hiiro's actor, Toshiki Seto, has an aversion towards sweets.
  • Kamen Rider Brave Safari Quest's design bears similarities to the Aztec Jaguar warrior outfit.
