Jun Honganji (本願寺 純, Honganji Jun) is a a Police HQ Chief and head of the Special Investigation Unit. He later becomes the first user of the Mach Driver Production Model, transforming into a Kamen Rider Mach Production Model, which he refers to as "Kamen Rider Jun" (仮面ライダー 純, Kamen Raidā Jun). [1]
History[]
Background[]
Jun Honganji is the section section chief of the Special Investigation Unit it of the Metropolitan Police Department. Honganji was a colleague and old friend of Krim Steinbelt, having founded the Unit to support Kamen Rider Drive's battles against the Roidmudes. He and Krim searched for the perfect successor of the Drive System after the fall of Protodrive, eventually opting to choose Shinnosuke Tomari, who happened to be the son of Honganji's late colleague Eisuke Tomari.
Chief of Special Cases[]
As chief of the Special Investigation Unit, Honganji is a political centrist who really hates trouble, and orders Kiriko to keep an eye on Shinnosuke because of his habit to skip work. He is interested in fortune-telling and feng shui, and the color of his necktie matches the lucky color of each day. Despite his silly attitude, Honganji is far more competent than he lets on, often giving Shinnosuke the right motivation when it was most needed.
Just right after Genpachiro Otta and Kyu Saijo learnt Shinnosuke's true identity of Kamen Rider Drive, Honganji greeted everyone down the Drive Pit revealing he already knew all along, having been close friends with Krim. He revealed the true purpose of the Special Investigation Unit as a cover for Kamen Riders' activities in the police organization. Honganji would later leak the Kamen Riders' secret identities to the media under the assumption that it would come in handy.
During the period of time where Shinnosuke had been killed in duty by Freeze, Mitsuhide Nira was desperate for Honganji to work with the police force to select a new Kamen Rider. In turn, Honganji snapped back at Nira, explaining that being a Kamen Rider requires more than just physical strength and intelligence. He and Krim had searched the entire police force for the right candidate in the form of Shinnosuke, and Honganji states that Shinnosuke cannot be replaced by anyone else as Drive. This motivated him to recover Shinnosuke's alleged corpse, revealed to be in perserved thanks to Krim merging with him and would assist the Special Investigation Unit to ressurect Shinnosuke as Drive Type Tridoron.
Soon, more Roidmude executives from all over Earth return to Japan in the race to achieve the Over Evolved, Rinna began to develop a mass-produced production of Kamen Rider Mach, with Honganji offering to be the first test subject. He transformed with his own Mach Driver to become the first user of the system, dubbing himself "Kamen Rider Jun". However, due to several bugs, Honganji unable to move due to spraining his neck, as well as some technical bugs in the suit's systems.
Eventually, the Special Investigation Unit have accomplished their mission of shutting down the 108 Roidmudes and ending Tenjuro Banno's reign of terror. With their mission complete, Krim locked himself and all Core Driviar equipments beneath the wrecked Drive Pit. After several parting words, Mr. Belt prepares the lockdown and all of the Unit members saluted for him. Following this, Honganji became the deputy commissioner of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
Other Events[]
Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle[]
The entire Special Investigations Unit become involved with the "Ultimate Lupin" case concerning the thief being actually a Roidmude. While Shinnosuke procceeded to investigate the case, he discovers that there is a mole amoungst the Special Investigations Unit. After gathering Kiriko, Rinna, Sanjo, Lt. Otta, and Chief Honganji, Shinnosuke exposed Kiriko to be Lupin undercover.
Super Hero Taisen GP: Kamen Rider 3[]
During the events of Super Hero Taisen GP, he is still the same Honganji like in his original timeline, especially in helping Kotaro Minami to hide inside Drive Pit. When his cover is quickly found out by Shocker, he is killed after being tossed out a window of the driver's school the Special Unit is operating in by "Genpachiro Otta", known as Cheetakatatsumuri, while Rinna and Kyu manage to escape the villains' raids. Honganji's death was undone upon the timeline being corrected.
Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future[]
When Kamen Rider Drive was engaging in a battle against a Giant Roidmude, he apparently fled the scene after the Trailer-Hou malfunctioned. This forced the Metropolitan Police Department to issue a nationwide manhunt for Shinnosuke, while the rest of the Special Investigations Unit were pleading his innocence. Upon discovering that the entire events have been orchestrated by Roidmude 108, the Special Investigations Unit convince the Metropolitan Police to assist Kamen Rider Drive to prevent the Eternal Global Freeze.
Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Ghost & Drive: Super Movie Wars Genesis[]
Honganji later appeared to assist Kamen Riders Mach, Chaser and Specter against the revived Heart, Brain and Medic Roidmudes, and Da Vinci Gamma as Kamen Rider Jun. Unfortunately, as his Rider form is very weak and he was easily overpowered by an attack from the Da Vinci Gamma, killing him. His allies bring his body back to the Daitenku Temple to mourn his death. However, much to everyone's surprise and utter shock, Honganji was miraculously reawakened. He explained that while in the void between the afterlife and the mortal world, he met a mysterious being with whom he chatted with. He was not permitted to enter the afterlife yet, because his allies in the mortal world still needed him, hence he was forced back into the mortal world, reviving him. Being too weak to go outside to help his allies against Da Vinci Gamma's army, Honganji remain cautious to find a safer place to defend himself.
After the battle ended, Honganji attended the wedding of Shinnosuke and Kiriko along with the rest of the former Special Investigation Unit as well as the Mysterious Phenomenon Institute team.
Personality[]
Jun is a trouble-hating man who often tells Kiriko to watch Shinnosuke as the latter slacks off. His strictness on Shinnosuke is partly due to the fact that Jun was a close colleague of Shinnosuke's father, and often gives advice to him and those around him during times of crisis.
He is also very much into fortune telling and feng shui, so he wears different colored ties on different days to match his lucky color for the day.
He also has a very peculiar speech pattern.
