Icon-strongerThis article is about a Rider Machine in Kamen Rider Stronger.

Kabutoro (カブトロー, Kabutorō) is Kamen Rider Stronger's standard motorcycle powered by electrical energy.

Features[]

Static electricity in the atmosphere is absorbed by the Lightning Light (電光ライト, Denkō Raito), recharging is basically unnecessary and thus the motorcycle boasts an infinite cruising range. It can run at a maximum speed of 1,010 kilometers per hour in the event of lightning. The battery stores 50,000 volts of electricity, and in an emergency, Stronger's energy can be replenished with a Jump Cable (ジャンプケーブル, Janpu Kēburu) that extends from the battery (shown in Episode 35). In addition, remote control operation is possible through Stronger’s command to summon it. There is also a jump technique called Kabutoro Jump (カブトロージャンプ, Kabutorō Janpu), and a shooting beam Kabutoro Thunder (カブトローサンダー, Kabutorō Sandā) from the Lightning Light. Equipped with an electromagnetic sensor, an electromagnetic radar, a special tracking device, and a star-shaped mechanism on the tail that acts as a magnetic disturbance generator.[1][2]

The bike's stats in the game.

Behind the Scenes[]

Filming vehicle[]

  • Three units were prepared for shooting[3]: off-road, on-road (Suzuki GT380[4][5][6]), and stunt vehicle (Suzuki Hustler 250[5][6][7]). Details such as the color and shape of the muffler, the color and mounting position of the fender, and the presence or absence of a tail cowl are different for each vehicle, but in the show, they are treated as a single motorcycle[8]. In terms of setting, it is said that the tail boom with scoop coils is extended to increase the efficiency of electricity absorption during cruising[9].
  • The stunt version is a lightweight trial version that was introduced based on the opinion of Toshiaki Kumazawa, a bike stuntman. The characteristics were fully demonstrated in the OP's wheelie scene, but during the filming of Episode 6, gunpowder exploded and was placed right under the vehicle by mistake, wrecking it, so it has not appeared since then[3]. In the second half of the series, rearview mirrors are installed[6].
  • In order to emphasize motorcycle action in the TV program proposal, it was required by design to omit unnecessary decorations[10], Kumazawa also testified that "It was the easiest to ride in the series because it kept the original form of the motorcycle"[11]. However, Kumazawa temporarily fell into cardiac arrest due to the aforementioned explosion accident and was forced to be hospitalized, so a member of the Kumazawa Auto Company took over[3].
  • It was newly built at the time of Kamen Rider (Skyrider), but the headlights were not painted[7].

Conception[]

  • In the early design by Ishimori, there was a plan for the vehicle to fly with a wing that had twin propellers[12][13], but it was changed to a smart, sleeker design to aim for rough and speedy bike action[14].
  • Kabutoro's conceptual names were originally Red Spark (レッドスパーク, Reddo Supāku) and Red Star (レッドスター, Reddo Sutā). Assuming that it would be used in conjunction with the main character's motorcycle before transformation, the final draft was made with a really simple design. The actual vehicle has slightly different star markings and tail design[15].
  • Kabutoro's final draft that brushed up the previous draft with colored pencils. In this volume, two types of motorcycles, on-road and off-road, were used together. In fact, it has been used differently since the old Cyclone, but in principle, the off-road type does not have a tail cover, except for the unveiling photo session[15].
  • In the magazine when Stronger was still known as Kamen Rider Spark, Kabutoro was known as Thunderball (サンダーボール, Sandābōru).

Notes[]

SIC Kabutoro
  • The S.I.C. toy model design (spelled as Kabutolaw) of the Kabutoro was sleeker and more modern in appearance, with a bigger engine, large quad exhaust pipes, modified extended wheelbase which rode lower and a centerless rear wheel.
